European oil major BP has made a strategic hire to reinforce its energy transition. Ex-RWE Renewables head Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath will head the UK major's gas and low-carbon energy business, replacing Dev Sanyal, who leaves at the end of the year. In a statement, BP said Dotzenrath’s appointment shows that the company is serious about beefing up its gas and low-carbon business as it works toward a net-zero business by 2050 on an absolute basis. Chief Executive Bernard Looney added that hiring Dotzenrath now was “the right person at the right time."

As European consumers face a winter of presumably high energy prices, Brussels is discussing ways to cushion the blow.
