Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) said its maritime logistics and services unit has recently taken delivery of six tugboats for use in local ports. Adnoc Logistics & Services (Adnoc L&S) acquired six Damen Stan Tug 1606 boats to provide services in petroleum ports in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The boats have nearly 16 tons of towing power and are used to help berth and unberth tankers and handle hoses at the emirate's oil terminals. They were supplied by Albwardy Damen, based in the neighboring emirate of Sharjah, as part of Adnoc's strategy of adding value to the United Arab Emirates' economy. Albwardy Damen's parent company, Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, had previously delivered 33 vessels to Adnoc and its its operating companies. The expansion of the Adnoc L&S fleet complements Adnoc's plans to raise oil production capacity to 5 million b/d and increase refining and petrochemical output by 2030. Earlier this year, Adnoc L&S announced that it had acquired two very large crude carriers in support of Adnoc's expansion plans (IOD Apr.13'21).
