Owji is a former deputy oil minister and held the post of managing director at National Iranian Gas Co. from 2009-13. Outside Iran little is known about him, other than that he was trained as a petroleum engineer. Industry sources in Iran say Owji's experience of working in the oil and gas industry gives him an edge in understanding the importance of attracting investment to Iran, which is currently limited by sanctions (PIW Jun.11'21). Parliament is expected to meet soon to review the nominations and is expected to approve most of them by the end of the month, sources familiar with the matter said.
