The Spanish firm which operates the UK’s former Government Pipeline and Storage System, previously also known as the CLH Pipeline System, said recently signed agreements included the supply of SAF. “The infrastructures of Exolum are prepared to receive, blend and store SAF and transport it via pipeline to the different connected airports,” the company said in an Aug. 6 statement. “The supply of this sustainable fuel by pipeline prevents the need to transport it by road or rail, thus reducing CO2 [carbon dioxide] emissions even further,” the company added. Exolum operates 2,000 km (1,250 miles) of jet fuel pipelines in the UK as well as 24 storage terminals with a capacity of almost 2.5 MMcm. The company provides fuel storage and transport services to UK military facilities as well as commercial airports. The UK's Defense Strategic Fuels Authority updated its Defense Standard for Aviation Fuel late last year (JFI Dec.18'20). That allowed up to 50% SAF deliveries to the Ministry of Defense and opened the door to the transport of SAF in the UK’s joint commercial and military pipeline infrastructure.
