Westinghouse this week entered a cooperation agreement with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) just days before a former Westinghouse executive pleaded not guilty to criminal charges of conspiracy and fraud over allegations that he, alongside other executives, failed to truthfully report cost overruns and delays at the twin-unit AP1000 V.C. Summer newbuild project, which was subsequently abandoned. The indictment of former Westinghouse Senior Vice President Jeffrey Benjamin joins that of another former Westinghouse executive who worked under Benjamin, and two Scana executives, with at least one other former Westinghouse executive likely under investigation. Scana is the parent company of SCE&G, which partnered with state-owned utility Santee Cooper to build the two reactors in South Carolina.
