Save for later Print Download Share LinkedIn Twitter North American jet fuel demand in February totaled 1.2 million barrels per day, about a third lower than year-earlier rates before the pandemic struck. Air traffic in the large domestic US market continued to pick up, limiting the year-on-year deficit to 33%. Gulf Coast airports were the exception after severe winter weather caused massive flight cancellations. Canadian usage was off by 66% with international flights still largely grounded. Mexico's restricted tourist traffic cut fuel usage to 44,000 b/d or half of pre-Covid-19 levels. US jet fuel exports dipped to 68,000 b/d in the wake of a winter storm in February that sparked electricity outages and shut down Gulf Coast refineries. Imports flowed into the country at a 113,000 b/d rate. Incoming cargo shipments spiked in March as cargoes were diverted from Europe to US East Coast ports.
