The project appears to be establishing a low-carbon competitive advantage to offset the cost disadvantage of being a greenfield project, but its efforts to decarbonize took off after a rebuff last year from a potential French LNG buyer on environmental grounds. The news comes on the heels of the company's announcement last month that it would build a Carbon Capture and Storage facility onsite. * * * The US Energy Information Administration expects US natural gas consumption to continue to decrease in 2021 as well as 2022. The EIA said in its April Short-Term Energy Outlook. The economic slowdown from the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with lower heating demand from mild temperatures pulled consumption 1.9 billion cubic feet per day lower than the all-time high of 85.1 Bcf/d set in 2019. The EIA expects natural gas consumption to continue to drop as the natural gas price forecast is expected to increase and more renewable capacity is expected to come on line in 2021 and 2022.
