Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has seized the Ever Given container ship, which blocked the canal for almost a week last month. The SCA was granted a court order to seize the vessel because of a dispute with the owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha of Japan, over who should bear the costs of the incident. The blockage of the canal -- a vital artery of international trade -- led to a big backlog of ships, including tankers carrying crude oil and refined petroleum products (IOD Mar.29'21).
