The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has presented its 2018 Award for Journalism to Energy Intelligence’s former Houston Bureau Chief and Senior Reporter-at-Large Barbara Shook, who retired in March this year after a 22-year career with the company.

The award was presented to Barbara at a Gala Dinner at Vienna City Hall on Wednesday evening during the 7th OPEC International Seminar. In making the award, OPEC commended Barbara on the “insightful reporting, rigorous analysis, command of the facts and attention to detail” she has demonstrated over a journalism career spanning more than four decades.

"On behalf of Energy Intelligence, I would like to congratulate Barbara on this well-deserved honor,” said Energy Intelligence’s Executive Editor for Content and Strategy, Alex Schindelar, who was in Vienna for the award presentation. “This award reflects the diligence, determination and professionalism Barbara brought to her reporting during her long career with Energy Intelligence.”

Barbara was a mainstay of Energy Intelligence’s coverage of OPEC, natural gas, LNG and many other related issues for more than two decades. She enjoyed a career in energy and energy journalism stretching back to 1971 and gained her first taste of OPEC coverage in the 1980s, as Chief Energy Reporter for the Houston Chronicle.

The OPEC Award for Journalism was established in 2009 to recognize journalists with a track record of balanced and objective reporting of energy and petroleum. The winner is chosen from a list of nominees by a panel of academics, journalists and oil industry experts.

Energy Intelligence is the leading independent provider of news, unbiased analysis and reliable data and research for the global energy industry.
