Biden and the Failure to Compromise

Mainstream view: US President Joe Biden’s trip to Europe was about restoring the US commitment to the G7, and rebuilding the trust that Donald Trump undermined. He wanted to demonstrate the capacity of democracies to both meet the challenges, and deter the threats, of this new age; and to rally against those 'autocracies' – specifically Russia and China, which the US wants to isolate. The communique may have fallen short of expectations, but it was a success as it contained XXX, YYY, ZZZ to underline Biden’s commitment to multilateralism and its partners and allies.

The latest clash between Israel and the Palestinians is over, avoiding a wider regional conflict, thanks to strategic pressure from the US and Mideast actors.
