EUROPE
Lower jet fuel prices have spurred budget leader Ryanair to boost its forecast for 2009-10 profits to €275 million ($377 million), up from earlier estimates of €200 million. Fuel bills dropped 37% to €207 million ($283 million) in the third quarter to Dec. 31 2009, helping the airline cut its quarterly deficit to just €11 million versus €102 million a year earlier. The 17 major airlines based in the Asia-Pacific carried 132.9 million international passengers in 2009, a drop of 5.7% from the previous year, according to preliminary figures from the Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines (AAPA). (Monday, February 8, 2010)
